Underwater Acoustics: From JANUS to PHORCYS

A new era in underwater communication: discover how the PHORCYS protocol and PYTHEAS Technology transducers are redefining naval interoperability.

JANUS is an open standard for underwater acoustic communication developed by the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE).

It is gradually evolving towards PHORCYS which is an open standard for secure acoustic communications that will enable navies to collaborate and interoperate, assuring secure transmissions and communications.

PHORCYS enables interoperability between different platforms, as it operates on multiple frequency bands.

This allows for higher-fidelity control and communication between :

  • UUVs
  • USVs
  • crewed vessels

PYTHEAS Technology offers compact transducers with extra-large bandwidth particularly suited for the PHORCYS protocol, such as :

  • the PyCOM-LF-MF covering 8 kHz to 30 kHz

  • the PyCOM-MF-HF covering 16 kHz to 60 kHz
